US, China trade negotiators talk on the phone as uncertainty looms over phase one deal
U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer spoke to Chinese Vice Premier Liu He late Thursday Eastern time, according to statements by the USTR and China's Ministry of Commerce.
They discussed matters concerning the economy and public health, including the "phase one" trade deal that both signed in January, the statements said. The call came as investors globally raised concerns over increasing tensions between the U.S. and China — two of the largest economies in the world.
