Ursuline is expected to be renamed the Ursuline College Campus of Gannon University. Ursuline College’s assets and liabilities will become property of Gannon.
PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - The Ursuline College board of trustees late last month approved an agreement to merge with Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, at a time when many smaller schools across the state and country are joining forces to weather declining enrollment, high cost increases and a changing higher education environment.
The Ursuline Sisters, who have sponsored the Ohio college for 153 years, wanted a partner that would preserve its legacy, as the number of sisters has declined. They believe Gannon University in the Diocese of Erie is a good fit. The transitional board of trustees controlling Ursuline will have nine members, with six members from Gannon and three members from Ursuline. This board will govern until the full merger is completed.Thirteen integration teams will work for the next 18 to 24 months to find efficiencies between the schools, the merger website says.
