PETALING JAYA: Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is now one of the top 10 young universities in the world.

The research university ranks 10th place in the recent Quacquarelli Symonds Top 50 Under 50 Ranking 2021, making it the first Malaysian university ever to achieve top 10.

According to QS, UPM's debut among the top 10 epitomises the recent rise of Malaysia's higher education sector. QS research director Ben Sowter said its findings indicated that the strongest challengers to established hierarchies were institutions from the Asia-Pacific region, with Asian universities taking four of the top five positions in the list.
