Shawhead Family Learning Centre in Lanarkshire now has a new outdoor mud kitchen and full-sized wooden play car, thanks to the community benefits programme accompanying the council house building programme at nearby Berwick Street.
Youngsters at a Lanarkshire early years facility are feeling at home in their upgraded playground after building on the construction of new houses in the surrounding area.

Centre head Clare Hay said: “These resources have enabled us to create a wonderful imaginative play zone in our outdoor area – the addition of the mud kitchen and role play car was a wonderful surprise for our children who were so excited to explore. Meanwhile, 19 new wheelchair-suitable properties are under construction in a £4.1 million development on the site of demolished former flats at Berwick Street in Shawhead, part of North Lanarkshire’s current programme to build 5000 new homes over the next decade.
