Five years ago today, owner Rick Porter, who runs in the name of Fox Hill Farm, had to scratch his horse Normandy Invasion from the Kentucky Derby because of an injury. Last night, history repeated itself as Porter's horse Omaha Beach, the morning-line favorite for the Derby, was scratched because of an entrapped epiglottis that caused the horse to cough and will require a procedure to repair. Omaha Beach is expected to miss three weeks of training, and thus likely the entire Triple Crown season.
As a result, Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia has revised his morning line. The scratch also opens up a spot for Bodexpress, No. 21 on the qualifying points list, to run if his connections want him to.
