Two major fires broke out locally Wednesday, with one arising from a scrap yard in Oroville and the second burning a portion of Bidwell Park in Chico.

A truck carrying a load of hay and pulling a horse trailer heads west on Eaton Avenue after being doused by fire retardant sometime before arriving in Chico. The Park Fire started in Upper Bidwell Park and quickly grew to more than 1,500 acres.

In Chico, Carhart said, Cal Fire-Butte County dispatched firefighters to the Park Fire. According to the Watch Duty App, an additional 10 engines and six crews were requested by the incident commander.
