The boy's mother remains in critical condition at University Hospital in San Antonio after undergoing a number of surgeries.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Salma Aktar, the mother of an 11-month-old boy who died Saturday, is awake and talking with family, according to an update from DPS on Wednesday.

The 11-month-old baby was involved in a car accident in San Patricio County with his mother and father in late May. San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera told 3NEWS the infant did not have brain activity May 30, and Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Sgt. Harold"Rob" Mallory said the baby died Saturday.Mallory said Tuesday that Aktar was in critical condition at University Hospital in San Antonio after undergoing a number of surgeries.
