According to Dr Zahid Badroodien's latest updates on the burst water main situation in George Road, emergency repairs have commenced and water trucks have been dispatched to alleviate further water supply disruptions during this time:

Dr Zahid Badroodien released an update on the burst water main situation in George Road, Ottery in two‘We are currently undertaking emergency repairs to our 535mm diameter water pipeline in George Street, Ottery. The process started yesterday, Tuesday, 27 June 2023, when the 1200mm diameter bulk water main had to be shut off to enable the maintenance team to access a leaking water main,’ explained Badroodien.

According to the posts, alternative water feeds that were opened by the Water and Sanitation Directorate’s Bulk Water team are not providing water to sufficient households.‘The Bulk Water team has excavated and assessed the burst. A cast iron scour valve is leaking. The team is manufacturing a special fitting for installing a new valve,’ continued Badroodien.

‘My sincerest apologies to the affected residents whose Eid preparations are impacted. Our teams are doing everything possible to reduce the repair time, and trying to secure alternative water sources to the most affected neighbourhoods,’ concluded the latest post. To alleviate the lack of water pressure and supply while repairs are being made, the department has dispatched four water trucks that are on-site in the following locations:
