Update: 15-month-old girl stable after Oakland shooting
United States Latest News,United States Headlines

Police in Oakland said they have surveillance video of a man they believe shot a 15-month-old girl Monday evening.

Police said the girl's family was driving toward the intersection of 12th Avenue and E 15th Street around 6:15 p.m. when they heard gunfire. The girl started crying, so her father got out to comfort her.

Police say the parents did not notice she had been shot, so they drove back to their home nearby. It was then that they realized what happened, and they then rushed her to the fire station located at 1235 International Blvd. First responders rendered aid to the toddler until an ambulance could transport her to Benioff Children's Hospital. She underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to the abdomen and is in stable condition. "There is no rhyme or reason for a lot of the cases," said Oakland Police Department Acting Deputy Chief Roland Holmgren."The common denominator here is, and we see all over the place is, the saturation of firearms in our city streets. And the willingness for people to settle differences and pull the trigger and not care where that bullet goes." Police said surveillance video showed the suspect, a black male, firing gunshots, but they believe the family was not the target and was simply caught in the crossfire. This is an active investigation and the Oakland Police are asking anyone with information to contact the felony assault unit at 238-3426.
