3 Body Problem is a Netflix original series from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with Alexander Woo. Based on the novel of the same name by Liu Cixin, 3 Body Problem centers on a detective who joins forces with a group of scientists after an unknown force begins killing scientists around the world.
Besides finding inspiration from source novels, both series function off of a pressing sense of impending doom. For 3 Body Problem, the story operates on how humanity scrambles to prepare for the approaching arrival of advanced extraterrestrials called the San-Ti, and Goodbye Earth's narrative revolves around how Earth, specifically the city of Woongcheon, copes with a catastrophic asteroid strike forecast to end the world in 200 days.
