Sharon Chuter founded UOMA Beauty as an inclusive movement with 51 shades of foundation to cater to women of all skin colors.

Uoma Beauty's founder, Sharon Chuter, worked her way up as an executive in the makeup industry at brands such as L'Oreal, Revlon and Benefit Cosmetics, but as one of the only women of color in the boardrooms, she found that these makeup conglomerates were only trying to be inclusive to keep up with trends.disrupted the industry by proving that non-caucasian women do have a need for a wide shade range and are a profitable consumer segment.

was inspired by Chuter's Nigerian heritage with shades for everyone and anyone. Uoma launched at Ulta with an unheard of 51 shades available in six custom formulas.Yola Robert: After working in the beauty industry for years, why did you decide it was time to start your own brand? What void are you filling in the industry with Uoma?I knew I wanted to do something when I found myself complaining all the time – I am a big believer in “ We all complain about the things we are not happy with, but no one is prepared to risk it all to be part of the solution. This is why I embarked on this journey.

Today it’s all about, “Hey, I have 40-60 or even 100 shades of foundation and this must mean I am inclusive.” It’s quite sad that the industry doesn’t understand that it goes beyond that. Everything should not be one size fits all. This is why we came out with a foundation that completely changed the game – unique formulas for different skin.
