Dezi Scopesi passed away after a month-long battle with severe COVID symptoms in the hospital.
The GoFundMe page was set up to help enable Stephen to go on family leave for a few months to spend more time with his family during this time, as well as to help the family pay for the insurance costs associated with Scopesi's medical care.
"We feel so much strength and comfort from the endless love and support we have received from all of you."Scopesi was a mom to a 1-year-old son. According to a GoFundMe page, she had been planning to get a COVID vaccine but had decided to hold off because she was breastfeeding her baby. In November, Nicole Cowley, Scopesi's sister, told Utah news outlet Fox 13 it was"very sobering" to see how fast her condition progressed.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says:"People who are pregnant or recently pregnant are more likely to get severely ill with COVID-19 compared with people who are not pregnant."
