The recent unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng has left pupils having to be taught in classrooms with broken windows during the cold weather. | Sesona_Ngqaks
This according to Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Basic Education chairperson, Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba.
She added two schools the committee visited in KZN were set alight, with one of them having its administration block and five classrooms gutted. "You are destroying an infrastructure that government has given to you. And the reality is that where they broke windows, it is now their own children who are in classrooms with broken windows in this cold." Mbinqo-Gigaba added although the education department had swiftly moved and replaced broken doors and dispatched mobile classrooms; the committees would still meet with it to discuss a way forward.
