The back-to-back defending national champions were a 14-point favorite over Auburn to open the week, according to Circa Sportsbook.
ADAM COLE Believe it or not, it’s set to be a relatively close contest when Auburn welcomes No. 1 Georgia into Jordan-Hare Stadium at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, according to at least a handful of projections.
“Road SEC tests are always difficult,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said this week. “There’s no way around it. I think any conference, when you go on the road in it, it’s always a test. A test of focus, patience, endurance, composure – all the qualities you need to be a good team. So we get our first one going to Auburn.”
Top-ranked teams are 579-39-7 all-time against unranked opponents, basically one loss for every 16 games played. The last team to pull off an upset was Texas A&M in 2021, which beat a then-No. 1 Alabama team 41-38 in College Station. Before that upset, it’d been more than a decade since an unranked team toppled No. 1, when Oregon State did it to USC in 2008.
