Police activity was visible early Wednesday at the 32nd Naval Base San Diego gate.
An investigation has been launched after an unmarked security vehicle caused a commotion at the 32nd Naval Base San Diego gate on Wednesday morning.
The vehicle, which belongs to the Naval base's security team, came through the gate without stopping around 4:30 a.m. Because the vehicle was not marked, the security guard did not know if it was a threat or not, and he initiated an emergency barricade system, Naval Base San Diego spokesperson Krishna"Krash" Jackson said.
The vehicle crashed into the barricade, injuring the three people inside, Jackson said. Two were civilian officers and one was active military. A spokesperson for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said two people were transported to the hospital. One civilian officer was treated and released and the others were still undergoing evaluation, Jackson said.Law enforcement officers is conducting a step-by-step investigation to determine exactly what happened, Jackson said. The 32nd Street gate will be closed amid the investigation and drivers will be re-routed to 29th Street for the time being.
