Stephen Charpentier became the first chief of the Mobile City Police. On Friday, the Mobile Police Department dedicated a memorial stone recognizing the final resting place of Charpentier, his wife, and one of his daughters. Rowland says it took several years of research to identify Charpentier’s grave but when they found it...Through working with the Catholic Cemetery, Rowland says they were able to locate the burial records. He says the plain slab was removed in 1970 along with a brick wall that was deteriorating.
