Pikachu stands in front of an army of Pokémon

The real-life Pokémon experience goes global. This year, The Pokémon Company celebrates its 30th anniversary with a groundbreaking gift to Pokémon fans. Universal Studios’ Pokémon-themed attractions won’t be limited to Japan.

Universal Studios Japan and The Pokémon Company have announced that, following its Japan debut, Universal’s Pokémon attractions will reach a worldwide audience in international venues. This expansion will follow the same approach as Super Nintendo World. Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the world of Pokémon, with a variety of interactive, but not particularly adrenaline-inducing, activities. Pokémon Is Tailor-Made For Interactive Experiences Pokémon Is A Theme Park In Video Game Form Pokémon is the perfect title to translate into theme-park format given its nature of exploration. Not only do players search for new creatures and engage in battle, but they also chart a wide variety of fantastical locations and study a constantly expanding history filled with countless Pokémon of all kinds. Universal park visitors will be able to do just that. A decade ago, Pokémon Go successfully tested a similar concept by motivating players to explore their own cities. Finding, fighting, and capturing Pokémon with a regular phone feels quite close to using a Pokédex and a Pokéball. Now, the experience takes another step towards realism as players explore familiar locations, handle real devices, and cross paths with the most realistic Pokémon to date. Universal’s Super Nintendo World Is A Successful Template Super Nintendo World Is Just As Family-Friendly As Its Source Material Universal Studios Japan's Super Nintendo World prioritizes immersion and spatial storytelling. The environment is dense with gamified mechanics that transform visitors into active participants. This approach aligns perfectly with the logic of video games, where discovery and playful experimentation take center stage. Super Nintendo World translates these principles into physical space, and Universal's Pokémon attractions are expected to follow suit. This model is especially well suited for discovery-oriented franchises like Pokémon. A Pokémon-themed park should be just as accessible across age groups and cultural contexts as one centered on Mario and friends. More broadly, Super Nintendo World offers a blueprint for future family-friendly theme parks focused on a single franchise, with a focus on authenticity and a deep faithfulness to the source material.
