not quite breaking out here or abroad. It’ll do okay in North America, with around $65-$75 million in the end, good enough for a $75 million co-production between DreamWorks and Pearl Studio. It opened soft in China last week, partially due to getting hogged out of screens by three National Day releases, so we’ll see if it can leg out over the next few weeks.
So, in that sense, as a longtime defender/fan of the House That Shrek Built, I’m happy to see Universal going all-in with DreamWorks toons. I don’t know what kind of future they will have alongside Illumination, but I still think there is a place for the studio that brought youalongside the current champions . Besides, I’ve often argued that both DWA and Pixar were at their best when they were neck-and-neck in terms of global box office dominance.
