Mpox is expected to no longer be considered a public health emergency in the U.S. from Feb. 1, 2023.

"Given the low number of cases today, HHS does not expect that it needs to renew the emergency declaration when it ends on January 31, 2023," U.S. Health Secretary Xavier Becerra said in a statement on Friday. The WHO label, a "public health emergency of international concern ", is designed to trigger a coordinated international response and could unlock funding to collaborate on sharing vaccines and treatments.
