By the end of October, only one airline will be offering nonstop service to Los Angeles International Airport.

By the end of October, United Airlines will cease its nonstop service between San Diego and Los Angeles, the air carrier confirmed on Thursday.

While offering no specific reason as to why the flights will be discontinued, a spokesperson for United said that a number of factors go into making such decisions, including demand and resources. “We regularly review our schedules and make adjustments as needed,” said Maddie King of United. “We will continue to serve other routes, which include Denver, Newark/New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Houston and San Francisco.”

The last date of service between the two cities is Oct. 28, leaving Delta Air Lines as the only remaining carrier offering nonstop service to Los Angeles. Passenger numbers for the United route last year suggest that demand may have been lagging, although air travel in 2021 was still below normal because of the pandemic. According to figures provided by the San Diego airport, there were 71,620 passengers who took United flights between San Diego and Los Angeles last year. Total seat capacity on the flights was 108,920, which translates to a load factor of 66 percent.
