The Albanese government will consider giving union representatives a seat on the new Reserve Bank Board after the CFMEU pushed through a change to the Labor Party's platform on the last day of its national conference.

Picture: Aaron Francis/The Australian That does not appear to have deterred Mr Smith and the CFMEU, with the construction division secretary telling the Sydney Morning Herald Australians"cannot afford" to have a central bank which is blind to their interests.
"Ordinary Australians cannot afford to see the Reserve Bank and Future Fund boards stacked out with captains of industry with little insight into their daily struggles." Such a view is likely to be contentious, with the opposition having already flagged it would strongly oppose appointing union members to the RBA Board.
