Headteachers given go-ahead to reopen schools next month by union
Both unions urged heads to introduce the phased reopening ofThe announcement will delight the Department for Education, which wants reception and Years 1 and 6 back on June 1., where primary schools have opened successfully following coronavirus shutdowns with social distancing and smaller classes.
The findings showed transmission among children and teachers is "limited" in classrooms in the first study of its kind. General secretary Paul Whiteman called for “clear evidence on the level of risk pupils, parents and staff may pose to one another”. He said it was extremely unlikely a school was the source of an outbreak and it was important children get back their one chance at education as soon as possible.
“It does seem from what we know now that children are less capable of spreading it even if they get infection and certainly are at very low risk of getting ill from the disease.”
