A small Alabama town is the center of a major new novel.

) - A small Alabama town is the center of a major new novel. Best-selling novel “Judge Stone”, co-authored by James Patterson and Viola Davis, is set in Union Springs, and is starting a national conversation about the small town.

The Bullock County Courthouse serves as the novel’s central location and Mayor Ron Smith believes the authors chose this setting with intention. “James Patterson and Viola Davis did not choose Union Springs by accident. They chose it because this place - our courthouse, our streets, our people, our history-captures something true about the American South. When two of the most celebrated storytellers of our time look at a map and say, “this is where the story happens,” that is a testament to the character and significance of this community," Smith wrote in a statement. The mayor said the courthouse, the streets of Union Springs, the people who live here, and the history that lives here captures something true about the South. “Judge Stone” tells a story about law, conscience and the courage to do what is right when the world is watching. Smith also sees this feature as an economic development opportunity, a cultural tourism opportunity, and an invitation for the nation to rediscover the Alabama Black Belt.‘No Kings Day’ protest draws more than 1,000 to Montgomery, organizers saySelma to receive $100K for Bloch Park, memorial stadium upgrades
