It appears seven URFA member positions have been 'discontinued' meaning their jobs are eliminated and they are no longer employed.
CUPE 5791, which represents university staff in administrative, operational and library supports, facility operations and security employees, and the trades, scientific and technical support employee groups, were also subject to layoffs. Representatives did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
During question period on Monday, NDP MLA Jennifer Bowes said the layoffs are “a direct result of this government’s underfunding.” Bowes asked how many jobs will be lost as a result of the government’s budget.Article content Makowsky said there has been stability in funding to all universities over the past four years due to a memorandum of understanding between the government and the schools. The universities are “happy with it,” Makowsky said.
“This is something that needs to be addressed at the provincial level. The province is responsible for post-secondary education.
