The body was found in the river at Warrington

A body has been discovered in the River Mersey. Police were called to Howley Lane, Warrington, to reports of a body in the water at 11.25am on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary said: "At 11.25am on Sunday 17 March, officers were called to reports of a body in the river Mersey near Howley Lane, Warrington. Officers attended the scene along with Cheshire Fire and Rescue service who retrieved the body from the river.
