A growing number of defectors from North Korea are getting involved politically in the South and pushing to take a tougher stance on Pyongyang
SEOUL—Growing up in Kim Jong Il’s North Korea, Ji Seong-ho had no exposure to democracy. His first taste came in 2007 when he saw a presidential candidate give a speech at a local market, a year after the double-amputee escaped to South Korea using homemade crutches.
“Everyone has one vote, which increases the value of a human being here,” said Mr. Ji in an interview at his modest downtown Seoul office. “If I become a lawmaker, I’d imagine that I’d be writing a page in the history books.”
