Republican firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and"Squad" member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined forces to tell President Joe Biden to end the extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and drop charges against him.
The bipartisan letter was signed by 16 members of Congress, including the now-censured Rep. Rashida Tlaib and fellow Squad Reps. Ilhan Omar and Jamaal Bowman . Other Republicans include Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Thomas Massie . Another letter, including some of the same signatories, was sent to Biden in October asking their colleagues to oppose Assange’s prosecution.
If Assange is fully convicted of the Espionage Act charges, he could face up to 10 years in prison for the 17 felony counts against him. Assange is facing 17 charges of espionage and one charge of computer misuse.
