Understanding Workload Mobility And Portability To Navigate Today’s Dynamic Cloud Landscape

A hybrid, multi-cloud strategy requires that an organization uses one or more cloud computing services from public or private cloud service providers, which is the case for many today. Organizations have pivoted towards hybrid, multi-cloud adoption for various reasons such as compatibility of workloads with the cloud service provider or the need for a global footprint as the organization grows, as well as price advantages.

In the industry currently, we see two technologies that are pivotal to the adoption and management of hybrid, multi-cloud environments: workload mobility and workload portability. These technologies often get confused since both of them refer to “movement,” but there are certain differences even though the main goal remains enabling and accelerating the adoption of hybrid, multi-cloud environments for today’s organizations.

With two decades of experience in the enterprise, cloud and fintech markets at tech companies, I've come to understand the challenges that organizations have with today's hybrid cloud adoption. This led me to look at ways to solve these challenges with workload mobility and portability, ultimately co-founding my company. Now, I'd like to share them with you.

With workload portability, organizations can enjoy greater flexibility, avoid vendor lock-ins, save cost, consolidate their disaster recovery operations and adopt the right cloud for their workloads, but they must be aware of the challenges as well.
