Uninviting and admirable all the same.Crawford’s Spartans squeezed out a rewarding 30-27 win over Magnolia West on Thursday to open the 22nd Montgomery Holiday Classic at Montgomery High School.
The Spartans, who have four losses this season by nine points or fewer, ended a five-game losing skid and improved to 3-8. Magnolia West saw its five-game win streak snapped and dropped to 7-3. Magnolia West obliged, which ultimately stunted its chances of winning. The Mustangs missed 20 of 22 3-point attempts.Porter struggled to score from the perimeter, too. The Spartans did not make any of their four 3-point attempts.
But the Mustangs missed a couple of good looks on 3s, Porter sophomore Wyley Nunn made a huge layup and two big free throws down the stretch, and Jonas-Reid finished defensive possessions with three crucial rebounds in the final minute.
