Anchorage’s music scene surprised organizers of an alternative festival by selling out passes for the weekend.
ANCHORAGE , Alaska - The Anchorage music scene surprised organizers of an alternative festival by selling out passes for the weekend.started Dec. 20. The two-day festival in downtown Anchorage -- showcasing more than 20 local bands and a DJ -- was organized by a local team of Alaskans who said they wanted to encourage community among fellow artists.
Lind said he was stunned when he checked their ticket sales. “We expected to not really do well. It’s it’s a given. Unless you’re a big established music festival, you’re not usually gonna have that following immediately,” he said. “But Anchorage surprised us, and I think it kind of proved us right in why we’re trying to do.”
“It’s not the biggest, the underground scene in Anchorage, but it is very tight-knit. It’s very easy to know people.” Lind added it’s difficult to find a space to gather in. “So when they pop up, generally they do kind of create this little community for as long as they’re around...”Venue space is one of the reasons Lind believes the alternative music in Anchorage often fluctuates in size and activity levels. Growing up in Eagle River, Lind attended his first local show at the Egan Center.
