MELAKA: A new political coalition is set to govern Melaka after Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's cooperation under Perikatan Nasional no longer exists.
Melaka Barisan Nasional and Umno chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the 15 state lawmakers had an audience with Yang-di Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Khalil on Thursday evening and the outcome of the meeting was very positive.
He said the new coalition comprises 13 Umno lawmakers and two who defected – Rembia assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis and Pengkalan Batu assemblyman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee ."All 15 lawmakers unanimously agreed that the new chief minister will be from Umno," he said.Ab Rauf said all 15 had signed statutory declarations before the Yang di-Pertua Negeri.
He said the new coalition had decided to sever ties with two Bersatu assemblymen – Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad .
