KUALA LUMPUR: The amendment to Umno’s constitution has been approved through an extraordinary general meeting on Friday (Jan 13), confirms information chief Datuk Isham Jalil.
He said that the decision was made through a voice vote where majority of the delegates agreed to the changes.
“The amendment to the party constitution has been passed. Firstly, on the division information chiefs' automatic appointment as representatives. “Secondly, an amendment that relates to the anti-hopping law,” he told the reporters at the party general assembly in World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on Friday .
Previously, it was reported that the amendments would be under Clause 8.4 which says all information chiefs will automatically be appointed representatives to the Umno general assembly every year. The second amendment, to Clause 20.11, would see Umno members having their membership revoked if they left the party after becoming an assemblyman or MP, or if they contested for any other party or as an independent in an election.
