A Scottish ultramarathoner who finished third in a recent race in the United Kingdom has been disqualified after authorities say she completed at least 2.5 miles of the 50-mile event in a vehicle.that tracking data from a running app showed Joasia Zakrzewski, 47, covered one mile of the 2023 GB Ultras Manchester to Liverpool 50-mile race in 1 minute, 40 seconds. The women’s world record for the mile is 4:12, set in 2019 by Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands.
A friend of Zakrzewski’s, Adrian Stott, tells the BBC that the runner was not feeling well during the race after arriving from Australia following a 48-hour journey.
