Local authorities around London insist they won't allow infrastructure for the low-emission zone to be built, unless their residents are included in scrappage scheme to compensate drivers
Buckinghamshire County Council’s Cabinet member for transport said: “Until we see [an expansion of the scrappage scheme], and other essential mitigations in place for Buckinghamshire residents, we cannot support this policy. It would therefore be at odds for us to install the signage TfL is requesting, so as not to undertake activity that facilitates a policy we do not agree with.
Campaigners backing the Ulez expansion said that Rishi Sunak should step up and pay for compensation to be expanded beyond London. Paul Morozzo, a clean-air campaigner at Greenpeace UK said London should be “proud” of being a world leader in tackling toxic air and attacked the Prime Minister.
