Finland and Sweden's application to join the Nato alliance has been opposed by Turkey's government.
President Joe Biden has said Sweden and Finland have the "full, total, complete backing" of the US in their historic decision to apply for Nato membership.
Mr Biden added that the required reports are being submitted to the US Congress "for speedy approval once Nato approves their accession".The decision by both countries to break decades of neutrality with their move to join Nato comes amid rising concerns for their own security following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In Finland's case, the country shares an 810 mile border with Russia.
"We are open to discussing all the concerns Turkey may have," President Niinisto said. "We condemn terrorism in all its forms and we are actively engaged in combating it." On Thursday, the US Senate approved a $40bn bill to provide military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
