Zelenskyy: 'No interest' in having NATO troops on ground before membership
"We will never exchange [our territories] for any frozen conflict," Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters at the close of the NATO summit in Vilnius.He was responding to a question over whether he was concerned Western countries were preparing for a scenario where Ukraine's membership in NATO could be used as a"negotiation chip" for Russia.

From the Ukrainian viewpoint, it is already functioning as a key part of the Western security apparatus as they attempt to repel the Russians from eastern Ukraine. Zelenskyy and his government are clearly treading a difficult line. They want the benefits of NATO membership – but they are dealing with their main suppliers of advanced weaponry, ammunition and military training. They cannot afford to alienate individual leaders – or public opinion in Europe and North American that sustains these leaders.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be a facing mounting pressure at home to come back from the NATO summit with"concrete" progress towards membership to the alliance, a defence and security expert has said.
