Russia has held rehearsals in Red Square ahead of its 9 May Victory Day parade in Moscow. The Kremlin has denied reports it may use the event to formally declare war on Ukraine. Ukraine live updates:

There has been speculation that the Russian president could expand what he calls his"special military operation". Speaking after briefing US General Mark Milley, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi said Russia had resumed the use of cruise missiles. Looking at an image from the plant, showing a large explosion, Mr McKenzie said it has been"suggested that thermobaric weapons have been used - a really nasty, banned weapon system, has been used".
The violence some civilians are suffering is"very significant", Mr Stokes said, adding:"We've seen women who were attacked in their own home. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has called for a prolonged ceasefire to help the 200 people inside, including women and children, to escape.Asked if a claim by a senior Ukrainian official that Russian troops had broken into the plant's territory was true, Mr Peskov referred journalists to Vladimir Putin's previous order not to storm it.
