The Russian Defense Ministry said that air defenses had downed 33 drones fired at the peninsula overnight.
Dozens of Ukrainian drones targeted Crimea overnight as the airborne threat posed by Kyiv toward the occupied peninsula continues.Kyiv has carried out many successful attacks against the peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014, often targeting air defense batteries. Strikes on Russia's Black Sea Fleet have forced it further east from its hub in the city of Sevastopol.
Newsweek has contacted the Ukrainian Defense Ministry for its views.Three days earlier, Ukrainian drones had targeted south of Sevastopol. Russian authorities said that its defenses shot down at least one drone over Cape Fiolent on July 15, The Kyiv Independent online newspaper reported.Local residents heard at least eight explosions and reported hits at the area. It was the location for a Russian military unit base said to be equipped with S-300 or S-400 air defense systems.
