The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained one of its own high-ranking officials, accusing him of espionage for Russia. The SBU alleges that the official, who headed the agency's Anti-Terrorist Center, provided sensitive information to Russian adversaries.

Ukraine 's Security Service (SBU) announced on Wednesday the detention of one of its own high-ranking officials, accusing him of espionage for Russia . The SBU stated that it had gathered evidence of 14 instances of the official's illegal activities, alleging that he headed the SBU's Anti-Terrorist Center. Vasyl Malyuk, the head of the SBU, personally led the investigation and carried out the arrest.

According to an agency statement, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was kept informed throughout the 'complex' and 'multi-step' operation. Malyuk claimed that the SBU had utilized encrypted software bookmarks to access the alleged traitor's devices, including mobile phones and computers. He asserted that they had successfully documented the collection and transmission of sensitive information by the suspect to Russian adversaries. A photograph accompanying the statement depicted Malyuk holding the accused individual, who appeared to have a bruise on his forehead, by the collar. In a video released alongside the statement, Malyuk revealed that the detained official had served with the SBU since 2016 and was now facing investigation for suspected high treason. The SBU further alleged that they had used the man to feed disinformation back to Russia. This arrest adds to a growing list of individuals, including some high-ranking officials, apprehended and convicted in Ukraine for alleged collaboration with Russia. Malyuk declared, 'The self-purification of the SBU continues.' He emphasized that despite the enemy's persistent attempts to infiltrate their ranks, they would remain vigilant in detecting, documenting, and detaining such individuals. This development comes amidst President Trump's efforts to facilitate a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. Earlier on Wednesday, the Kremlin categorically rejected the notion of a territorial swap with Ukraine as part of any peace agreement. This staunch refusal followed President Zelenskyy's suggestion to exchange Ukrainian-held territories within Russia's Kursk region for areas currently occupied by Russia in Ukraine. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin's spokesman, stated definitively, 'This is impossible. Russia has never and will never discuss the topic of exchanging its territory,' shortly after Russia launched a deadly drone and missile attack on Kyiv. Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet U.S. Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, an event expected to be largely focused on the war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives in Ukraine. German officials have downplayed the likelihood of significant breakthroughs during the summit. Keith Kellogg, President Trump's special envoy for Russia and Ukraine, is also slated to visit Ukraine the following week, just days before the third anniversary of Russia's invasion on February 24
