Ukrainian troops are continuing their incursion into the Russian territory of Kursk, gaining between one to two kilometers on Wednesday.
AllUkrainian officials have been expanding on what they see as a “buffer zone” inside Russia, which they say will protect better communities in northern Ukraine.
He also said that Russian civilians in parts of the Kursk region now controlled by the Ukrainian military “were abandoned by Russia without the most necessary things.” The Ukrainian military is coordinating with his ministry on “the needs of the locals for drinking water, food, medicines and hygiene kits so that we can organize humanitarian aid as soon as possible…”
The origin of the explosions has been a subject of intense speculation and further stoked political tensions in Europe seven months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Neither of the pipelines were actively transporting gas to Europe at the time of the leaks, though they still held gas under pressure.
“ are now trying to stop our advance; they have pulled in reserves, which has benefited our defense forces in other areas, because it has become easier to work there,” he said.Alongside his unit, Kholod said he joined Ukraine’s forces on day one of their surprise cross-border incursion into Russia and only left the Kursk region on Wednesday.

They are protected by international humanitarian law, which Ukraine fully complies with,” she said, so the Ukrainian military would “conduct humanitarian operations to support civilians within the mentioned zone” as well as open corridors for civilians to evacuate, either into Ukraine or within Russia.
The Russian ministry also said its aircraft had carried out strikes on Ukrainian reserves on the other side of the border in Ukraine’s Sumy region. It’s unclear how far Russia is redeploying units from other areas along the front lines to bolster the defense of Kursk, but it does appear to be redirecting reserves.
More than 35 Ukraine-launched drones were also destroyed over the southwestern region of Voronezh, which borders both Kursk and Belgorod regions, Voronezh Gov. Aleksandr Gusev said in a Telegram post on Wednesday. Ukrainian Ground Forces spokesperson Dmytro Lykhovii told Ukrainian media Tuesday that “some Russian military units” were moved to Kursk from occupied southern Ukraine. It marks a notable change of tactics from Ukraine, which has previously attacked targets inside Russia with drones and missiles, but until last week had not launched any official ground incursions across the border.
