A series of wildfires across the UK, exacerbated by record-breaking temperatures, threaten to persist for days as fire crews struggle to contain blazes from Greater Manchester to the Cairngorms. A suspect has been charged with arson.

Wildfires continue to ravage parts of the United Kingdom as a persistent heatwave shows no signs of abating, with firefighters warning that it could take days to fully extinguish the flames.

The largest of the blazes, which began on Saturday at Dove Stone Reservoir in Greenfield, Saddleworth, Greater Manchester, has spread rapidly across the moorland and merged with a separate fire at Tintwistle Moor, covering a vast area. Fire crews from multiple services have been deployed, with 70 firefighters, 11 fire engines, and four wildfire units on the scene, supported by helicopters dropping water.

Ben Levy, area manager for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, stated, 'I envisage our firefighters are going to be on these moors for a number of days. There is no significant rainfall forecast, and temperatures are due to remain high.

' The dry conditions and shifting winds have fueled the rapid spread, creating a dangerous situation for both firefighters and nearby communities. In a related development, 20-year-old Shania Care-Slede has been charged with arson in connection with the moorland fire. She appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, charged with one count of arson, reckless endangerment of life, and one count of dangerous driving. She has been remanded in custody
