Keir Starmer has swept the Labour Party to victory and the Conservative Party have been defeated after 14 years leading the UK government.
Britain's Labour Party has been swept back to power in a landslide victory, after 14 years of Conservative rule.The Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer will now become the UK prime minister, after voters gave his party more than 400 of the 650 seats in the Westminster parliament - one of the largest victories in modern history.
By contrast, the Conservative Party who have led Britain for the past 14 years, through economic austerity, Brexit, Covid, and no fewer than 5 prime ministers, were dealt a devastating blow, with their numbers halved to some 120 seats - their worst performance in almost 200 years.The outgoing prime minister Rishi Sunak said he accepted responsibility for the result.The election also saw a strong performance from the Liberal Democrat party, who are now the third largest.
