University of Houston students are organizing a protest on Wednesday to demand increased safety measures after a series of violent crimes on and near campus.

University of Houston students are planning a protest on Wednesday to address a surge in violent crimes on and around campus. The protest comes after a recent string of incidents, including an armed robbery on Tuesday night and a sexual assault at knifepoint last week. Just Tuesday, a University of Houston student was robbed at gunpoint near campus. Police say that around 9:15 p.m.

, a group of four people approached the victim at a METRO bus stop near University Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard. The suspects demanded the victim's cellphone and fled on foot. Thankfully, the victim was not injured, but his phone was taken. The suspects were described as one man and three women. Last Friday, a separate incident saw a student sexually assaulted at knifepoint in the Welcome Center Student Parking Garage. There have also been reports of other assaults and robberies in the area. The recent crimes have heightened safety concerns among students. 'We're not in like a super safe area in general, but I feel like before, I've felt fairly safe on campus. But now, there's been like several things happening in a very short amount of time, and that makes you feel more scared,' said student Hedda Grelz. Students are calling for improved campus security measures, including better lighting and increased investment in safety programs. They plan to march and rally to make their voices heard
