University of Houston star running back Alton McCaskill, in a video posted on his YouTube channel, described the knee injury that will force him to miss the upcoming season.
After a dynamic freshman year, UH running back Alton McCaskill is out for the 2022 season after suffering a knee injury during spring practice.
McCaskill, whose 16 rushing touchdowns as a true freshman earned him American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year,“I was in pistol formation,” McCaskill said during the nearly 9-minute video. “I took three steps, one back step to the left, tried to go the right. My body … I felt something weird going on the side of my knee. A feeling I’ve never felt before.”
McCaskill said he noticed swelling in his left knee almost immediately. Team trainers performed a knee test before he walked off the field.McCaskill underwent surgery for a torn ACL, performed by team doctor Walter Lowe, on April 11. A doctor explains the procedure to McCaskill, drawing an area where the incision will be made.After the surgery, McCaskill is seen walking around on crutches.
“I was just so ready for improvement,” he said. “I was just ready to feel some type of normalcy. As an athlete, I’m used to being able to get up, jump around, and do whatever I want just because I can. Just not being able to walk and not being able to do things on my own, that was very hard to deal with. I was just ready to look forward to some normalcy. I just wanted to walk, honestly.”
