Fatal drug overdoses in the Buckeye State are declining.
The Ohio Department of Health last week released its 2023 unintentional drug overdose report, which revealed a decrease for the second year in a row. This included a 9% drop from 2022 to 2023 with 4,452 deaths last year.
“This has been incredibly successful and vital in addressing the opioid crisis in our community,” UH Parma Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christopher Dussel said. “Since the beginning of our Naloxone use on victims of opioid overdoses, we’ve been receiving this drug free of charge from the UH Parma Medical Center. This has undoubtedly saved many lives in our community.”
