UH football notebook: Season over for wide receiver Joseph Manjack IV

Wide receiver Joseph Manjack IV, who transferred to UH from USC, finishes his first season as a Cougar with 11 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown.Injured wide receiver Joseph Manjack IV is unlikely to play the rest of the season as the University of Houston looks to preserve a year of eligibility, coach Dana Holgorsen said.

“At this point, I’m saving Manjack,” Holgorsen said. “He’s not quite ready. I’m not going to play him. … The way he plays, the way he puts his hands on people, I don’t want to play him in another game or two and him lose a year. You know my feelings on him and how important he is.” Holgorsen added that “about 30 guys” are on this week’s injury report. That list includes running backs Brandon Campbell and Stacy Sneed, linebacker Mannie Nunnery, nickel back Jayce Rogers, wide receiver Samuel Brown and safety Hasaan HypoliteAnother test awaits Saturday as the Cougars’ secondary faces East Carolina quarterback Holton Ahlers, the all-time leading passer in American Athletic Conference history.

After UH allowed 486 passing yards to Temple, Holgorsen said the defense needs to improve on quick and intermediate passes.
