A major winter storm is predicted to hit Texas, bringing ice and snow to North and North-Central regions. Houston will experience heavy rain but avoid the freezing conditions. ERCOT has issued a Weather Watch due to expected increased electricity demand.

The next Texas winter storm is almost here, and it's going to be ugly. Houston will avoid the worst of it. Wednesday will be cloudy, breezy and cold, so bundle up. Highs will be in the mid-40s. Thursday gets interesting. Ice and snow begin for north-central and North Texas . Houston 's weather will begin with light rain and transition to heavy rain Thursday night. There is a chance for isolated street flooding Thursday night and early Friday.

Thursday through Friday morning are now FOX 26 Storm Alert Days. Anyone who has travel plans to the Dallas-Fort Worth area should pay close attention to the forecast over the next two days as ice will be possible beginning Thursday, and there is even a chance for several inches of snow by early Friday. Locally, we'll stay cold, but above freezing, so no ice will stick to our roads in Houston. We'll look forward to a nice, sunny weekend with cold mornings and pleasant days. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has issued a Weather Watch from Jan. 6 to Jan. 10 due to anticipated cold weather, an expected increase in electricity demand, and the possibility of lower energy reserves. The organization expects grid conditions to remain normal during this period even though they are keeping a close eye on conditions. No immediate action is required from Texans. However, ERCOT recommends monitoring grid conditions and being mindful of energy usage, especially during peak demand hours
