Manuel Ugarte and Sander Berge have emerged as midfield targets for Manchester United as Erik ten Hag tries to bolster that area before the end of the month
Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his Manchester United midfield before the end of the transfer window. United have had a busy summer so far, spending over £150million on four players.
According to Fabrizio Romano, talks are still ongoing between Paris Saint-Germain and United over Ugarte. Jorge Mendes is leading negotiations with PSG open to selling and United keen on signing the midfielder. However, United do need the reported £51.4m asking price reduced or one more sale to fund the transfer. If neither of those happen, Romano says United will go for the cheaper opinion.
Starting with passing, Ugarte averaged 60.01 passes per 90 with a success rate of 91.1 per cent. If you compare that to Berge, who averaged 47.35 passes per 90 with a success rate of 88.2 per cent, Ugarte comes out on top. However, it's important to recognise that Ugarte was playing in a 'better' team who had more of the ball, so it's likely that Berge's statistics would drastically improve if he was playing in a more dominant side.
Moving to the defensive actions, Ugarte made 4.19 tackles per 90 compared to Berge, who averaged 2.35. Ugarte also recorded more interceptions at 1.89 per 90, with Berge on a low 0.71. However, Berge was superior at blocks , clearances and aerial duels won . Ugarte, in comparison, averaged 1.17 blocks per 90, 1.21 clearances per 90 and 0.64 aerial duels per 90.
