President Yoweri Museveni has removed his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as commander of Uganda's land forces, the military said on Tuesday, after Kainerugaba repeatedly threatened on Twitter to invade neighbouring Kenya.
Kainerugaba, widely regarded as the de facto head of the military and his father's chosen successor, later said the comments were made in jest.
Kainerugaba is outspoken on social media, frequently trading barbs with opposition figures and weighing into politics, despite his military role barring him from doing so.

'Museveni's Son's Promotion Preparing Him For Uganda Presidency'The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi known as Bobi Wine has said the promotion of Lieutenant-General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to the rank of general is a step towards his eventual coronation as president of Uganda. Kyagulanyi's remarks came hours after President Yoweri Museveni promoted Kainerugaba to full general. Kyagulanyi claimed that Museveni and his son have been the chief perpetrators and beneficiaries of the worst human rights violations against the people of Uganda. Following the first son's Twitter meltdown, several people in both Uganda and Kenya raised concern over the impact on the relations between the two neighbouring and brotherly countries. President Museveni has instructed his son to go slow on his tweeting activity as it will cause a diplomatic row between Uganda and other countries, sources have told The Nile Post.
