A University of Georgia student was critically injured during a violent incident on Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning, the university confirmed. UGA President Jere W. Morehead shared the news on the social media platform X, expressing deep sorrow over the event. 'I am deeply saddened by the devastating attack in New Orleans overnight, and I extend my sincere condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this terrible tragedy,' he wrote.

President Morehead confirmed that the injured student, identified as Elle Eisele by her previous school, is receiving medical care. 'At this point, we have learned that Eisele was critically injured in the attack and is receiving medical treatment. I have spoken to the student’s family and shared my concern, support, and well wishes on behalf of the entire UGA community,' he added. He also expressed gratitude to first responders and medical personnel, stating, 'As we continue to hold the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers, the University will do everything in its power to support those in our community who have been impacted by this unspeakable event.' Later on Wednesday, the Canterbury School in Fort Myers, Florida, identified Eisele as an alumna of the school. Another former Canterbury student, Steele Idelson, was also injured in the attack, a school spokesperson confirmed. In a statement, the Canterbury School expressed the families’ gratitude for the support they have received. 'The Eisele and Idelson families are deeply grateful for the outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and offers of support for our daughters following the tragic attack in New Orleans. We are especially thankful for the exceptional care and compassion they are receiving at University Medical Center. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders, whose swift actions may have saved our daughters’ lives. To everyone who has reached out with love and support, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
